Perran Foundry
The Perran Iron Foundry in Perranarworthal near Truro was one of the cradles of the industrial revolution. The Foundry was founded in 1791; a complex of casting, forging and pattern making shops, leats driving water mills, store buildings and offices, employing up to 400 men. It closed down in 1879. Some buildings were later adapted for grain milling, but in the 1980s, the gates finally shut for good. Since then the site has decayed into a romantic ruin and will now be sensitively revived to provide live work units and loft apartments of the highest specification.
